Bomb or Bust? – Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm

Hey everyone! Thanks for coming back! I really wanted to get a YouTube video up this weekend, but unfortunately, the sickness is upon me! I am not feeling well, and I figured no one would want to listen to my stuffed up/sickness/man voice, right?! So I decided to wait on that. But I did want to get in a quick post for you guys since I couldn’t get a video up. I am starting a new series on my blog – Introducing… Bomb or Bust! I will be doing this with different products after trying them a few times to tell you if I think the product is worth purchasing or not! The first one – The Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm! Was this Bomb or Bust? Keep reading to find out!

Okay – So as I’m sure all my fellow makeup addicts know, the new rage is using the Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm as a makeup primer. If you have ever watched NikkieTutorials on YouTube, I’m sure you would have seen her use this in at least one of her videos; She swears by this stuff! And just recently, KathleenLights (My new YouTube obsession) posted a first impression video of this product, and had nothing but good things to say. So OF COURSE, you know I had to go pick it up, and try it immediately!

Okay, so to be honest, I am not normally one to use random products on my face. In case you don’t know, I have very sensitive, acne prone skin and I try to avoid irritating it with new products. However, the product is called Nivea Mens Sensitive Post Shave Balm; it says that this product is made for sensitive skin, so I thought maybe I’d be okay. I really wanted to give it a try, so I was willing to take that risk.

Now – Onto my thoughts! First of all, it’s a huge bottle and you need VERY little of the product to prime your face. When I first opened the bottle, of course I took a whiff and, Yes; It smells like a man. If you are sensitive to scents, or you don’t like that smell, then I would steer clear of this product. But me, I actually kind of like that smell, so it really didn’t bother me.

I dumped some onto the back of my hand and the product is pretty liquidy so A LOT of product came out of the bottle. Luckily, I was able to get what I didn’t use back in. So like I said, this product is liquidy, so you can take a really small amount and just put a light layer on your skin. I did it in sections, and then rubbed the product around until it felt tacky (This is what everyone says to do).  And that’s it; face primed!

The first day I used this, I didn’t use any other primer (I usually use two primers; One to mattify and one to fill in my pore and fine lines). But I really wanted to see how the product worked by itself, so I just wore this and did my makeup as usual. Now, don’t get me wrong; I am well aware that this is by no means an actual makeup primer. I didn’t expect it to do any of the things that my normal primers do. It did not help make my pores less visible, or mattify my skin. But my makeup did apply really nicely.

With that being said, after I was finished my makeup, I feel that my face had a slight dewy finish; It didn’t look greasy per se, but definitely dewy. I do not like the dewy look. I have very oily skin and I like to avoid adding shine to my face. I did have to blot and apply powder throughout the day, which is a regular occurrence for me, but I did this a few times more than normal.

The second day,  I used one of my mattifying primers UNDER the Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm, hoping that it would get rid of some of the dewiness. It did help a little, but not as much as I was hoping. My skin was still somewhat dewy (A little less than the day before) and I still had to blot and powder more than normal.

All in all, I do not think this primer was made for me. If you have dry to normal skin, and you like a dewy finish, TRY THIS! You are the person that this was made for. Me on the other hand, I am a matte gal, and this just didn’t do it for me. My final verdict: BUST! And I am so sad to say that, I was really looking forward to using this, but it just wasn’t right for my skin type.

Anyways, that’s it for my very first Bomb or Bust! I hope you guys liked the idea of this series! I am going to try to do this with all my new products to help people decide if they should or shouldn’t buy something. If you have any products that you have been thinking about buying, but you’re not sure if it’s worth it, let me know and I will try them out for you! Have you tried the Nivea Mens Post Shave Balm? Do you think its Bomb or Bust? Let me know in the comments below!
